A gilded butterfly is a butterfly covered in gold. It looks pretty but they've lost their purpose, which is to fly.
"We will laugh at gilded butterflies" in King Lear suggests finding joy in simple, natural things rather than being impressed by artificial beauty. It reflects a desire to embrace authenticity and simplicity over pretentiousness and extravagance.
