The Zoetrope

THE ZOETROPE

Concept:

A zoetrope is one of several pre-film animation devices consisting of a cylinder with a series of pictures on the inner surface that, when viewed through slits with the cylinder rotating, give an impression of continuous motion. The Zoetrope was built by Rob Buchanan using recycled farming equipment. This installation featured two Zoetrope, ours being powered by a hand crank, and the latter made from Cookies that were sculpted into a cylinder, spun using power from a bicycle, and eventually eaten.
